Heather “Lucky” Penney, USAF (Ret.), one of two F-16 pilots from the DC Air National Guard launched on September 11, 2001 to intercept United Flight 93.With their F-16s not yet armed, Penney and her commanding officer took off knowing they might have only one way to stop the hijacked aircraft from reaching Washington, D.C. They were prepared to ram Flight 93 in what could have become a one-way mission.As we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Maj.
