America’s Tank Demo Weekend

July 25 @ 9:00 am, ending July 26 @ 5:00 pm

$20 – $35

NOTE: EVENT ADMISSION INCLUDES ADMISSION TO MUSEUM

America’s Tank Demo Weekend is where you can see some of the American Heritage Museum’s tanks spanning the history of American armor including the WWII era M4 Sherman, M24 Chaffee, and M36 Jackson Tank Destroyer tanks; and the Cold War era M47 Patton, M41 Walker Bulldog, M60 Main Battle Tank, M60A2 “Starship” tanks along with the and M88 Tank Recovery vehicle. Each tank will be featured throughout the day with a detailed overview on its history, operations, and effectiveness on the battlefield while it operates on the tank driving grounds.

Gates open at 9:00am and close at 5:00pm each day. Tanks will be driving all day as part of our ride programs, but don’t miss the narrated Tank Demos of WWII Era Tanks and Cold War / Vietnam Era Tanks from 11:00am to 12:00pm and 2:00pm to 3:00pm each day.

Two historical presentations will also take place inside the American Heritage Museum each day at 12:00pm and 3:00pm:

12:00pm – All Roads Lead to Hagaru – A Discussion on Korean War Leadership

An immersive journey to the frozen Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. In the bitter winter of 1950, more than 100,000 Chinese Communist Forces surrounded 30,000 American and United Nations troops, including the U.S. 1st Marine Division and U.S. Army 31st Regimental Combat Team. Their survival depended on holding the village of Hagaru, where Marines, Soldiers, and British Royal Marines fought desperately in one of the Korean War’s most brutal battles. This discussion on Korean War leadership examines the decisions of Peng Dehuai, Major General O.P. Smith, Colonel Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller, and Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Drysdale. Their choices before and during the battle shaped the defense of Hagaru and the fate of the surrounded forces.

3:00pm – The M1 Abrams Tank: Myths vs. Realities

A discussion on America’s Main Battle Tank, the M1 Abrams in all its variants. Learn about the design, technology, and employment of this system from our Abrams tank expert with over 13 years of recent experience commanding tanks and armored vehicles. This is an opportunity for visitors and tank enthusiasts to understand fact from fiction about this iconic third-generation main battle tank and its 46 year service history.

All three museums will be open: The American Heritage Museum, The Historic Aviation Hangar and Classic Automobile Barn. This is a unique opportunity to see some of the world’s most rare aircraft, extraordinary American classic automobiles, historic tanks, armored vehicles, military artifacts and much more.
