12:00pm – All Roads Lead to Hagaru – A Discussion on Korean War Leadership
An immersive journey to the frozen Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. In the bitter winter of 1950, more than 100,000 Chinese Communist Forces surrounded 30,000 American and United Nations troops, including the U.S. 1st Marine Division and U.S. Army 31st Regimental Combat Team. Their survival depended on holding the village of Hagaru, where Marines, Soldiers, and British Royal Marines fought desperately in one of the Korean War’s most brutal battles. This discussion on Korean War leadership examines the decisions of Peng Dehuai, Major General O.P. Smith, Colonel Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller, and Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Drysdale. Their choices before and during the battle shaped the defense of Hagaru and the fate of the surrounded forces.
3:00pm – The M1 Abrams Tank: Myths vs. Realities
A discussion on America’s Main Battle Tank, the M1 Abrams in all its variants. Learn about the design, technology, and employment of this system from our Abrams tank expert with over 13 years of recent experience commanding tanks and armored vehicles. This is an opportunity for visitors and tank enthusiasts to understand fact from fiction about this iconic third-generation main battle tank and its 46 year service history.
All three museums will be open: The American Heritage Museum, The Historic Aviation Hangar and Classic Automobile Barn. This is a unique opportunity to see some of the world’s most rare aircraft, extraordinary American classic automobiles, historic tanks, armored vehicles, military artifacts and much more.
