Today we celebrate the birthday of Harriet Quimby, one of America’s great aviation pioneers. Born on May 11, 1875, Quimby became the first American woman to earn a pilot’s license in 1911 and quickly captured national attention with her skill, courage, and unmistakable purple flying suit.In 1912, she made history again as the first woman to fly solo across the English Channel, piloting a Blériot XI, the same type of early aircraft now on display in the American Heritage Museum’s annex hangar. Her achievement came just years after the dawn of powered flight and helped inspire generations of women in aviation. The included photo shows Connie Tobias, pilot and Harriet Quimby re-enactor, flying the AHM Blériot 20 years ago, bringing Quimby’s remarkable legacy back to life.#HarrietQuimby #AviationHistory #WomenInAviation #AmericanHeritageMuseum #BleriotXI #LivingHistory ... On this day in 1940, Germany launched its invasion of Western Europe. Aircraft, tanks, motorized units, and communications helped change the pace of warfare in the opening phase of the Battle of France. The American Heritage Museum has several notable artifacts on display related to the Battle of France including the German Panzer 1 tank and the British Matilda Mk.II. Additionally, the museum is currently restoring an original German Junkers Ju 87D-5 Stuka in the Czech Republic and a German Heinkel He 111H-3 bomber in Florida for eventual display - both key aircraft used by Germany in its Blitzkrieg tactics. February 25 @ 6:00 pm, ending 7:00 pm

Free for Members / Veterans / First Responders

Recurring event – Wednesday Evenings from 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Free to all AHM Members, veterans, service members, first responders, and their in-home family members/caregivers.

Offered by our partner, the Warrior Within Yoga Project, Warrior Yoga classes are designed specifically for the veteran and first responder community and provide tools to manage stress and increase resilience.

All Warrior Yoga classes are beginner-friendly and made to be safe and accessible, especially to those who are “inflexible” or who may have a traumatic brain-injury.

Our well-trained instructors will deliver a secular style of yoga, focused on the proven mind-body benefits of yoga instead of the spiritual or philosophical aspects of yoga in order to make the class inclusive.

Warrior Yoga at the American Heritage Museum is taught by instructor, Steve Cannon. Steve served in the US Air Force from 1978 to 1984 as a Security Police Specialist and then joined the Reserves as an Air Cargo Specialist. His favorite duty station was a three year tour at Spangdahlem AFB in Germany. After his service, he went into the fitness and wellness industry. He has over 35 years of experience, as a fitness instructor/trainer, massage therapist, and yoga instructor.

Warrior Yoga at the American Heritage Museum takes place every Wednesday evening from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on the carpeted mezzanine level of the museum, overlooking the main galleries.

Registration is required for your initial class. Please see the Hudson, MA schedule at Warrior Within Yoga at this page and register for an upcoming Wednesday evening class.
