This prestigious recognition underscores the museum’s commitment to preserving and interpreting the legacy of World War II through immersive exhibits and exceptional artifacts. The National Geographic feature highlights the museum’s extraordinary collection, describing it as one of the world’s largest assemblies of tanks and military vehicles, while also noting unique visitor experiences such as riding in a historic M4 Sherman tank and exploring rare vintage warbirds.
“We are honored to be included among the world’s premier World War II museums,” said Rob Collings, President of the American Heritage Museum. “This acknowledgment reflects our mission to bring history to life through the narratives of those who fought on all sides as they faced the trials of war on all fronts from 1940-1945.”
A program of Collings Foundation, Inc., a non-profit educational foundation, the museum showcases the Jacques M. Littlefield Collection—one of the largest and most comprehensive repositories of military tanks and vehicles globally. Its immersive dioramas and campaign-focused displays offer visitors a vivid, chronological journey through WWII. Rare exhibits include the only North American publicly displayed versions of tanks such as the Soviet IS-2, German Panther, and British Matilda MK II.
Welcoming nearly 70,000 visitors in 2024, the American Heritage Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday each week from 10:00am through 5:00pm. Throughout the summer, the museum continues to host dynamic “Living History Weekends,” featuring tank demonstrations, aviation showcases, and re-enactments such as the world famous “Battle for the Airfield” WWII re-enactment in October that bring history into motion.
