Professor of modern history at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel and has held senior research fellowships at Trinity College Dublin, University of Notre Dame, Central European University, University of Oxford and most recently at Boston College, where he was the Burns Scholar. He specializes in the historical study of remembering and forgetting, with a particular interest in Ireland. His books Remembering the Year of the French: Irish Folk History and Social Memory (University of Wisconsin Press) and Forgetful Remembrance: Social Forgetting and Vernacular Historiography of a Rebellion in Ulster (Oxford University Press) won multiple awards.
